Cambridge Wedding Photographer – Shooting in Brighton
Thursday, 27th August 2009A few weeks ago, I spent an amazing and surprisingly sunny summers day in Brighton with my friend and fellow photographer Simon and he’s friend Heather, not forgetting of course our amazing model for the day Sarah! Sarah was recently one of Simon’s brides and when our previously arranged model had to drop out for family reasons, agreed to whip out her wedding dress and come and model for us around Brighton.
I had never been to Brighton before, so all the streets offered new and exciting possibilities to me, but for Heather and Simon who both live locally it was a real exploration to find something new and view their home town a little differently. I had always understood Brighton to be a really cosmopolitan town, with a tendency to not bat an eyelid at anything out of the ordinary, but it seems that walking through the streets in your wedding dress, is out of the ordinary even for Brighton and we attracted a lot of attention and congratulations as we wandered the streets.
The session was about giving us all an opportunity to try new things, new locations and without the pressure of the clock ticking with guests waiting and deadlines to meet. We started off on Brighton Pier

Then into the back streets, where unbeknown to us, we picked the ally famous from the film Quadrophenia

Then a little garange entrance love – I love the blue!

A fabulous restaurant gate

Some bold graffitti which also features Sarah’s name!

A little attitude for the green door.

Time for reflection

Under the arches

Thank you Sarah for being such fun to work with!
More and more UK brides are now taking the opportunity to wear their wedding dress again. You may have heard of ‘trash the dress’ and ‘cherish the dress sessions’, personally I prefer the idea of cherish the dress, they cost a fortune, and should be loved! This session is what they are all about, going to new locations and getting some fabulous shots that are somewhat different, maybe a little modern, querky, high fashion or whatever style and taste suits the bride, grooms can come too!
If you would like to put your wedding dress back on again and have some fun, please get in touch.
Gritty but pretty. Looks like you guys had loads of fun! I wish more UK brides would be up for a Cherish the dress session. It’s a chance for everyone to have a proper fashion shoot and enjoy the time taking photos without worrying they’ve left their wedding party for too long.
It was a great day!! & These images are lovely! It’s so awesome to see 3 totally different sets of images (mine, yours & Heathers) created on the same day, with the same light, location & model!! Particularily love the green door & the gate shots! (I can’t believe I missed the time with the funky gate!!!) & I adore the processing on the second to last one, beautiful colours! Come back soon mmmmmmkkkkay!!!!
Oooh, wasn’t expecting these to be up yet – they’re great! Was such a fun session – would definitely recommend any bride to do it…I’ve promised a few friends we can have a go as they’re desperate to wear their dresses again! Really love the first shot, it is gorgeous, and the gate one is brilliant…can you email me them so I can send to my mum?!? Thank you!!!
Absolutely love these images! The locations are amazing, particularly the narrow alleyway, blue wall and graffiti and you’ve used them brilliantly – fantastic poses and captures. The second last one is great too, I love the angled wall and the light falling on Sarah is wonderful.
Great piccies, Hayley! Really love the gate one and the one with ‘Sarah’ written on the wall – well spotted!
